The church St. Saviour (The Ascension of Christ), village of Leskoec – Ohrid region
Macedonia is widely known for the rich fund of witnesses to the medieval art and culture, very significant for the history in general. The monuments of culture, such as the cathedral church St. Sofia, the church of St. Klement or the one dedicated to St. John Kaneo are the distinguishing features of not only the Balkans but in the same time of the entire world.
Just like the aforementioned churches, seen in all their beauty by hundreds and thousands of visitors, of no smaller importance to our history and the knowledge of our art and culture from the time of the entrance of the Turks in this realms is the church St. Savior /The Ascension of Christ/ in the village Leskoec, about 3 km from Ohrid.
According to the inscription above the west entrance – on the out side, which does not originate from the time of the renovation of the church in 1898, the year 1462 is mentioned as a date when the church was built and fresco-painted.
The church is basically single-nave construction, with a three-sided apse and a semi-oval arch roof. During the renewal a porch was built on the west and on the south side.
| In general, the fresco-paintings of the church represent an interesting and specific artistic entirety and that is due to the details met in the compositions – the narration – further, the certain iconographic moments, motifs from the everyday life and the skilful presentation of the profane figures. | |

Here we mention only the most important figures: St. Nicola the Miracle-worker and the figure of St. Clement of Ohrid – given with the pattern of Ohrid. The portraits of the founders of this church leave a deep impression: Tode and Bulka, without any idealization.
