Church Saint Nikola, Trnovo

On slightly inclined slope of the village Trnovo, near Kriva Palanka, the church dedicated to Saint Nikola is situated. From the preserved data of the considerably damaged inscription, placed in the inner side above the entrance door, we learn that the year of its construction and fresco-decoration was 1505.

This is a small single-nave church with modest architectonic construction. On the western and southern side there are separate entrances with porches. The church is with semicircular dome and apse on the eastern side.

At the time of its construction it was completely fresco-painted. Unfortunately, part of the frescoes of that period are quite damaged or completely destroyed. Besides the images in whole size situated in the lower parties of the first zone, more characteristic are the cycle of the Great Christian holidays including the compositions of Annunciation, Nativity of Christ, Sretenie, Baptizing, Resurrection of Lazarus, Angel on the Grave, Dormition of Virgin, Descent to Hell.

According to its stylistic features, the fresco-decoration belongs to the period of the Turkish Empire. On the other hand, the iconostasis is decorated with icons belonging to the 19th century.
