The church St. George, village of Godivje – Ohrid area

The exact date of the building and fresco-painting of the church is not known, but according to the analysis of the style of the fresco-painting we can conclude it originates from the second half of the 15th century.

It was built from broken and carved stone with mortar and by its architectural shape is identical with the church St. Konstantine and Elena and the church Holy Mother of God - Bolnicka  in Ohrid.

The connection with the ohridean paintings is confirmed with the presence of St. Clement of Ohrid, the patron of the city, whose image is linked to the local tradition. In this church, St. Clement is painted next to the iconostasis, on a place that usually belongs to the composition "Deisis" – The Judgement Day where Jesus Christ is painted with the Holy Mother of God and St. John the Baptist on his sides praying for the salvation of the sinful souls.

Another specific of this painting is that in the altar space, in the foundation height, on an ornamented surface of the east wall the figures of two-headed eagles are painted, old symbols of the imperial reign and the Lamb with Christ’s initials – "The Good Shepherd".
