St. ATANASIUS, VAROS, PRILEP
| The time of the building and painting of the Varos church dedicated to St.Atanasius remains unknown. From her history, the science only knows that it is mentioned, and her name is connected with the name of the archimandrite Leontius, who gave a book of psalms to a monastery in Sveta Gora, the year 1622. | |
From an architectural point of view, the church was raised on a rectangular basis, in a form of a cross and an apse, three sided on the outside. The upper part of the church is ruined today.
It was built out of limestone and bricks, the style is characteristic for the 14th century, when ancient building materials were used. Two ancient monolith columns are kept out of it.
The frescoes in the church were destroyed. Only traces of them can be noticed on the south wall.
