The Clock Tower

In the courtyard, to the north from the Sultan - Murat mosque, there is the six-sided Clock tower from the 16th century. The mechanism of the clock, positioned on the external wall of the tower, was brought from Hungary by the Turks. The building is founded on an older, medieval defense (protective) tower.  thm_SK3.jpg

It was built in wooden construction, but it was later replaced by bricks. In 1963, during the earthquake, there were major damages to the tower, and it was repaired and reconstructed.
