The monastery St. Petka, village Velogoshti – the Ohrid area
| On the slopes of the hill ‘Olmec’ is the monastery St. Petka. In the middle part of the exterior of the five-sided apse, the following inscription is written: "Saint Petka. Built on the request of Czar Sultan Abdul Hamid. With the help of the folk in the time of the prior Naum Ilinchev. In the year 1890 – May 22." | |
The monastic church is single-nave basilica with two domes. The iconostasis is from the 1969, and in the interior there are icons from the 19th century. It is fresco-painted recently, by the fresco-painter Dragan Risteski.
Under the today’s church there are leftovers of mortar from a cave-church.
The church was enlarged in 1922, during the time of the priest Alekso Shokaroski.
A poetic night is held in the monastic church, in August, in the honor of one of the greatest Macedonian poets Zivko Chingo, who was born in the village Velogoshti.
