KARPINO MONASTERY, VICINITY OF KUMANOVO

Near Orah, a village in the vicinity of Kumanovo, there is a monastery church from the 16th – 17th century, dedicated to Mother of God Introduction. It was built of crafted stone in the shape of a triconhos.

There are two levels of frescoes in the monastery. The older layer was painted in the time when the church was built. Recognizable from this period are the pictures of Mary Mother of God with Jesus Christ, located on the south konch, and those of Tiron and Theodore Stratilat, on the south konch. The newer layer of frescoes dates from the end of the 19th century.

On the wooden iconostasis with a modest look the masterwork icons are set up, among which the eight holiday icons from the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th Century. According to their artistic value, one distinguishes for the beauty of composition: "The Great Feasts".

In the property of Karpino Church we can see a number of other significant constructions like the choir stools made of bone with incrustation.

The monastery overnight shelters suffered a lot of damage during World War II. The experts at the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in the Republic of Macedonia dedicated a lot of attention and effort to this monastery complex and consider it one of the protected monuments of the country.
