Cerje site, village Govrlevo - vicinity of Skopje
The archaeological site Cerje dating from neolith time is situated near the village Govrlevo, in the vicinity of Skopje, The deep cultural level leads to the existence of a multi level settlement where life was going on from the time of the early neolith and all the way to the late neolith, as a proof we have the last to levels in which a few living houses made of stone and wood were found.
Besides this, terra - cotta archaeological acknowledgements have been made, among those were the figures of the goddess of fertility.
But, what stimulates most interest is a recently found figure by the archaeologist Milos Bilbija from the Skopje City Museum. With the founding of this figure of a clay made man, numerous questions whose answers might bring to light a great world history, have been opened. As a matter of fact, "Adam from Govrlevo", as it was called by its founder, is the oldest artefact found on the ground of Macedonia untill now. It dates from somewhere between 4th and 3th millennia before Christ. The artefact "Adam from Govrlevo" presents a figure of a male body, sitting, with a little bended back on which the backbone together with the ribs was carefully carved. The belly button really sticks out and it is oversized and set on a withdrawn stomach where in the lower part we can see the male sex organ in erection. All this points to a model of a man where the human and the divine side meet each other. Exactly this spiritual dimension make this terra - cotta example a lonely and unique artefact found from that time.
