Ishac Beys (Alaja) mosque

It was raised in 1438 by Ishac - Bey in his glory and besides it a burial chamber, Moslem secondary school, overnight shelters and objects of profane character were built. Later the mosque was reconstructed by his nephew Mahmed, as we can see from the sign on the north gate.

The Skopje painted mosque was given its name because of the colorful plates that decorated the walls and the tambour, and can also be found today on the outside walls of the burial chamber. This building presents a modest architectural design, and it is interesting because of its massive wooden doorways in woodcarving with oriental motives.

The founder of the painted mosque is buried in the mausoleum situated in the surrounding area around the mosque.
