The rich folklore of this region is complemented by a sequence of revolutionary events that award it with special importance. Hence, in the village of Smilevo the decision about the start of the Ilinden uprising was brought, and the renowned Macedonian vojvoda Ordan Piperkata has chosen the village of Brezovo.
The Demir Hisar region is rich in cultural monuments that have an important place in the cultural map of Macedonia and are among the especially important treasures in its rich history. In this region, you can visit: the Toplički monastery (14th, 15th century) with the church St. Nikola, Slepčenski monastery (before 14th century) with the church dedicated to Sv.
